Railcards

Eligible students can get 1/3 off train travel with a 16-25 Railcard.

A quick check to make sure you're eligible...

16-25 years old

If you’re between 16 and 25 years old, you’re eligible. In this case, you can buy your Railcard online using a valid debit or credit card, a valid UK driving licence or international passport, and a digital passport-style photo for uploading. It will then be delivered for free within 5 working days.

Further information canbe found on the Railcard website 16-25 Railcard

Mature students (over 26)

If you are aged 26-30 years old and still in full-time education, you can choose whether to buy a 26-30 Railcard, or buy a 16-25 Railcard as a mature student.

Mature students who are over the age of 30, can only choose the 16-25 Railcard option and apply as a mature student.

To be eligible as a mature student and buy a 1-year Railcard, you will need:

  • To be attending a recognised college or university, for over 15 hours a week, at least 20 weeks a year. Unfortunately, Open University, distance learning and part-time courses do not qualify.
  • To have the mature student section of the 16-25 Railcard application form completed by your College or University.
  • Have a NUS card or College/University photocard as proof of identity.

Please allow up to 5 working days for your Railcard application to be approved.

Mature students will need to provide evidence of continuing study every year, and so are only eligible to apply for the 1-year Railcard.
