From 2025/26 academic year, tuition fees will increase by 3.1% in line with the maximum tuition fee cap set by the UK Government.
To support students, your maintenance loan will also increase to help with your living costs. This will apply if you’re starting a new undergraduate course or continuing with your undergraduate course at Herts. You can find details below setting out the increases including where to go for financial support.
What are the increases?
Tuition fees increase for 2025/26:
- The maximum cap for full-time student fees will go up by £285 making the yearly maximum fee limit £9,535.
- The maximum cap for part-time student fees will go up by £210 making the yearly maximum fee limit £7,145.
- The maximum cap for accelerated student fees will go up by £340 making the yearly maximum fee limit £11,440
Maintenance loan increase for 2025/26
- The maintenance loan for students living at home will go up by £267, making the maximum maintenance loan £8,877 yearly.
- The maintenance loan for students living away from home will go up by £317, making the maximum maintenance loan £10,544 yearly.
Who will be affected by the changes?
The tuition fee and maintenance loan increase will affect:
- new and current undergraduate home students
- current undergraduate students on a placement or industry year or study abroad
- PGCE students
- MArch Architecture and Urbanism students
- PG Health Allied Courses such as: Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Dietetics, Radiography and Paramedic Science.
- Students re-siting a module in the 2025/26 academic year
- Students returning to their studies after a period of time away
Who won’t be impacted by the changes?
The tuition fee and maintenance loan increase won’t affect:
- international or postgraduate students (other than those on the courses identified above)
- students studying on a foundation degree or degree apprenticeships
Will it result in any upfront costs?
These increases won’t result in any upfront costs for you.
What happens when I graduate?
Once you’ve graduated, your student loan repayment process will remain unchanged. Your monthly student loan repayments won’t increase and will only begin once your graduate salary exceeds the repayment threshold. The threshold is currently £25,000 and after 40 years any tuition fee that is unpaid is written off (as of January 2025).
