What is HIC attendance monitoring?
HIC monitors your attendance and engagement to make sure you are progressing on your course.
You must:
- Maintain at least 85% attendance
- Attend all face-to-face classes
- Arrive on time and stay for the full session
- Take part in your scheduled learning activities
Important
- If you hold a Tier 4 Student Visa, you must follow your visa conditions. Poor attendance or lateness may affect your right to study in the UK.
- An absence is recorded if you miss a class without approval.
- Authorised absences are only given in exceptional circumstances and require evidence and approval in advance.
Student responsibilities?
You must inform College Services if you cannot attend.
If you are absent:
- Tell College Services before your class
- Provide a doctor’s note for longer illnesses
- Request permission for important appointments and provide evidence
- Contact College Services if you have serious personal issues

- Complete and email the Explained Absence Form or Leave of Absence Form
- Include supporting evidence

Student engagement process?
HIC reviews attendance regularly and contacts students who fall below 85%.
- Weeks 1 to 4
You will receive warning emails if your attendance is low - Weeks 5 to 11
Continued monitoring with actions such as: - Emails and phone calls
- Face-to-face meetings
- Warning or intention to withdraw letters
- Weeks 11 to 12
Focus on exams only
Attendance for students under 18
If you are under 18, you must:
- Attend a face-to-face meeting in week 1
- Take part in catch-ups every two weeks (email or appointment)
