About the Bayfordbury Observatory
Bayfordbury Observatory is the University of Hertfordshire's teaching observatory for astronomy and astrophysics.
It is used extensively by students on the Astrophysics programme and is one of the largest and best-equipped teaching observatories in the UK.
How can I visit the observatory?
Students from any University of Hertfordshire course can visit the SPECS Bayfordbury Observatory hub to find out more about the observatory and contact staff.
You can also:
- Attend a public open evening
- Arrange a group visit
Open evenings are usually held once a month between October and March and are open to adults, children and amateur astronomers.
Private group visits can be arranged for groups of 15 or more people.

Bayfordbury Observatory is located on Bayfordbury Campus in the Hertfordshire countryside, a few miles south of Hertford.
