Dignity and Respect Advisors

Advice and Support if you are dealing with bullying and/or harassment

What is a Dignity and Respect Advisor?

The University of Hertfordshire is committed to promoting an ethos of dignity and respect for all our staff and students. We all have a responsibility to:

  • treat each other with fairness, courtesy and respect
  • work together to resolve any disagreements or tensions

The University's 'Policy to promote dignity and respect' safeguards all staff and students. More information about bullying and harassment may be found here

We recommend students concerned about harassment and/or bullying should contact one of our Dignity and Respect (D&R) Advisors in the first instance for a confidential chat so you can share what is happening and the effect it is having on you.

D&R Advisors are volunteer members of staff from across the University who are trained to undertake the role. They are supported by the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Office and provide impartial and confidential guidance and signposting to anyone involved in cases of harassment or bullying (including those facing allegations about their behaviour).

They are there to listen to what has happened and to help and support individuals to make informed choices to deal with particular issues appropriately and as quickly as possible.

Arrange a confidential chat with a Dignity and Respect Advisor?

If you would like to speak to a D&R Advisor, contact the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Office at: edi@herts.ac.uk and someone will be allocated to you.

Remember that a conversation with a D&R Advisor is just that. It is not necessarily the start of any formal process but an opportunity for individuals to voice their concerns in a supportive and non-judgemental space and receive signposting and guidance.
