Active Students is so much more than traditional sport. It’s a great way for you to meet new people and experience something for the first time, whilst having fun and staying healthy. All activities are free and you can turn up when you want – no sign up, no commitment, no cost.
So if you want a break from studying, want to see what’s going on around campus or want to meet some new people, then join us at a session.
Compete: HertSquad Campus Sport
If you like your sport competitive but want to keep it on campus then Campus Sport is for you. It’s not just getting involved. It’s sport for those with a hunger to compete. There are competitive leagues and regular one-off competitive tournaments in a range of sports.
Represent: HertSquad Athletic Union
Our sports teams have a strong history in competition and club members wear purple with pride. If you have a passion for a sport and like to compete, Athletic Union is where you’ll be at home, representing Herts to compete against other universities and clubs across the country.
There are BUCS leagues, or regional and national competitions. But whatever the sport and whoever the opponent, there’s always the drive to win #goherts

Hertfordshire Sports Village Gym - de Havilland campus
We want to help you achieve the most from your time with us while you are at University. Hertfordshire Sports Village gym is located on de Havilland Campus and is equipped with a range of resistance and cardio Matrix Fitness machines along with a large free weights area and a large multi-use functional training rig – there are so many ways to train! Our fully qualified Health and Fitness team are always on hand to provide expert advice and support.
The Sports Village houses a spacious, air-conditioned gym with large windows designed to make the most of the natural light. The gym also houses 2 group exercise studios, consultation rooms, BodyBalance Physiotherapy and Sports Injury Clinic and Performance Herts.
Access to the Sports Village gym is included in our Bronze, Silver and Gold student memberships.

The Oval Gym - College Lane
The Oval is home to the state-of-the-art 50 station gym, available for use exclusively by University of Hertfordshire students and staff. Located conveniently on College Lane so you can continue training whichever campus you are on. With a range of cardiovascular and resistance machines combined with a free weights area, you will reach your goals in no time. With 24 hour opening, you are able to train whenever it suits you!
Our stunning equipment is supplied by Matrix Fitness, all our cardio kit has interactive displays so you can track your workout, log in to social media, watch TV or go on interactive tours of the world! All students are able to hire the MUGA for free, so why not train in a different way?
