Before you appeal
Before contacting Student Funding and Financial Support, please read the UFAF Appeals Procedure.
How can I appeal a UFAF or Summer Fund decision?
Stage 1 appeal
If you are unhappy with the outcome of your UFAF or Summer Fund application, you must complete Stage 1 of the appeals process.
You must:
- Email financial-support@herts.ac.uk within 10 working days of the date your decision email was sent.
- Explain why you are appealing.
- Include any additional evidence that supports your appeal.
The Student Funding and Financial Support team will then arrange a meeting, either in person or online, to:
- Explain the outcome of your application.
- Consider any additional evidence you have provided, where appropriate.
Stage 2 appeal
If you remain dissatisfied after completing Stage 1, you can submit a Stage 2 appeal to the Deputy Head of Student Finance.
Important: You must submit your Stage 2 appeal within 10 working days of receiving your Stage 1 outcome. Appeals received after this deadline will not be accepted.
To make a Stage 2 appeal:
- Complete the UFAF Appeal Form.
- A link to the form will be provided by the Student Funding and Financial Support team after Stage 1 has been completed.
- Submit the completed form within the required timeframe.
What are the grounds for appeal?
Your appeal must clearly explain the reason for your appeal and include relevant supporting evidence.
Appeals can only be made on one or more of the following grounds:
- Evidence was not considered during the original assessment, and there is a valid reason why it was not provided at the time.
- There was an administrative error or procedural irregularity during the original assessment.
- There was unfairness or inappropriate conduct by one or more members of the Student Funding and Financial Support team during the assessment process.
Student Funding and Financial Support will forward your appeal to the Deputy Head of Student Finance, who will review the appeal and consult relevant members of the team where necessary.
Final decision
- The Deputy Head of Student Finance's decision will be provided in writing.
- The decision is final.
