How the Student Immigration Team (Advice) can help
The Student Immigration Team (Advice) can:
- advise you on making your visa application at a drop-in session or scheduled appointment
- help you complete your online Student visa application at a scheduled Student visa workshop.
Student visa application workshops
You should book a place on a Student visa workshop once you have received your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
Before attending the workshop, you must set up or sign in to your UKVI account and complete the required identity check.
GOV.UK confirms that when applying, you will be told whether you need to use the UK Immigration: ID Check app and create or sign in to a UKVI account, or provide your biometric information another way.
What to bring to your workshop
Bring:
- your mobile phone, laptop or tablet
- passport
- BRP card, if applicable
- new CAS number
- UK National Insurance number, if applicable
- UK driving licence, if applicable
- national ID card, if applicable
- your accommodation addresses for the last two years
- details of your travel history.
What the Student Immigration Team (Advice) cannot do
The Student Immigration Team (Advice) cannot:
- submit late applications
- guarantee how long the Home Office will take to process your application
- speed up the application process.
GOV.UK currently states that a decision on an application to extend a Student visa in the UK will usually be made within 8 weeks. Applications can take longer in some circumstances, and some applicants may be offered the option to pay for a faster decision.
Travel while waiting for your visa decision
Do not make travel plans until you have received your visa decision and accessed your eVisa.
GOV.UK states that if you are extending your Student visa in the UK, you must not travel outside the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man until you receive a decision. Your application will be withdrawn if you do.
If you need to leave the UK after submitting your application, you may need to withdraw your application.
If you withdraw your application, you may lose your application fee. GOV.UK states that the amount refunded depends on the stage your application has reached and warns that cancelling an application may affect your permission to stay in the UK.
