Mobile phones, watches and 'smart' devices in exams

Exam regulations relating to electronic devices in exam rooms

 Electronic devices in exams

To protect the fairness of exams, you cannot have any electronic devices on your person.

This includes:

  • Mobile phones
  • All watches (smart or traditional)
  • Fitness trackers and other wearable technology

All devices must be switched off completely, with all alarms disabled. You must place them in the plastic box on your desk — not in your pocket, bag, or anywhere else in the room.

ℹ️If you are found with a device on you during an exam, it will be treated as academic misconduct, which is a serious disciplinary offence and may lead to significant consequences.

The University may use mobile phone detectors during exams. Random checks can happen before, during, or after the exam, including during any supervised toilet breaks.
