Personal Electronic Equipment

Guidance for students using personal electronic equipment on campus

Students can use electrical sockets on campus for personal electronic equipment, e.g. laptop  and phone chargers. However, if you use personal electronic equipment on campus you are responsible for ensuring that they are in a safe condition to use. Please follow the below advice:

  • Report any wear or damage to plugs, sockets, switches, power cables and equipment which may expose people to danger to estates@herts.ac.uk.
  • Use the original charger supplied with your device or one manufactured by a reputable brand.
  • Do not buy cheap unbranded chargers from the internet or market stalls. Counterfeit chargers could cause fire, injuries or electric shocks.
  • Always use an appropriate adaptor for non-UK plugs - do not try to force a non-UK plug into a UK socket.

If there are any rules in your local areas e.g. workshops and labs, that differ to the advice above, follow these instead.
