  • 01707 281010 if you are on campus

What is Speak Up?

Speak Up is the University's confidential reporting service.

You can use Speak Up to report something you have experienced, witnessed or are concerned about.

Use the Speak Up reporting form to submit a report.

How do I report a concern or incident?

Use the Speak Up reporting form to report an incident or concern.

You can:

  • report anonymously
  • provide your contact details so we can contact you
  • report a concern on behalf of someone else (where possible, obtain their consent first)

Can I report anonymously?

Yes. You can submit a report anonymously.

Anonymous reports help the University understand issues across our community. However, if you do not provide your contact details, we will not be able to:

  • contact you
  • provide updates
  • take action that requires your involvement

What happens if I provide my contact details?

A specialist team will review your report and contact you to explain the next steps.

Depending on the nature of the report, we may:

  • discuss available support
  • explain any investigation process
  • keep you informed about progress where appropriate

What happens after I submit a report?

Your report will be handled confidentially.

In some cases, information may need to be shared with specialist staff so that concerns can be investigated appropriately. If there are circumstances where confidentiality cannot be maintained, we will explain this to you.

Your information will be processed in accordance with the University Privacy Policy.

If your report names a member of staff

We will:

  • explain the options available to you
  • not contact the staff member without discussing this with you first
  • ask for your permission if Human Resources needs to be involved

You may be offered the option of making a formal complaint. This will not happen automatically.

When will I hear back?

Specialist teams work Monday to Friday.

We aim to respond within 5 working days.

False or malicious reports may be dealt with under the University's student or staff disciplinary procedures.
