Student visa processing times in the UK
If you apply for a Student visa from inside the UK, how long it takes to get a decision will depend on the service you use. There are three services:
- Standard service
- Priority service
- Super Priority service
Your processing time starts when you:
- verify your identity and submit your documents and application using the UK Immigration: ID Check app, or
- attend your biometric appointment.
Applications by Standard Service (£524)
- For the Standard service it usually takes approximately 8 weeks after submitting your application using the IDV app or after attending your biometric appointment to get a decision
Applications by Priority Service (£1,024)
- For the Priority service it usually takes approximately 5 working days after submitting your application using the IDV app or after attending your biometric appointment to get a decision
Applications by Super Priority (£1,524)
- For the Super Priority service it usually takes 1 working day after submitting your application using the IDV app or 1 working day after your biometric appointment if it is on a weekday, or 2 working days after your biometric appointment if it is at the weekend or on a bank holiday, to get a decision
Can my Student visa application take longer?
Yes. Your application can take longer than the usual processing time.
This can happen if, for example:
- information in your application needs further consideration
- you need to provide more evidence
- your supporting documents need to be verified
- you need to attend an interview
- UKVI needs further information about your circumstances.
Can I travel while waiting for my visa decision?
You should not book travel until you have received a decision on your visa application.
There are no actions that you or the University can take to make the standard application process quicker.
