University opening times
University offices will be closed on Monday August 31 (Bank Holiday) and Tuesday 1 September (University closure day). However, there will still be plenty of support available during this time.
Learning Resources Centres (LRCs)
The College Lane and de Havilland LRCs remain open 24/7 over the Summer. Find out more about LRC services and facilities at ask.herts.ac.uk/learning-resources-centres.
Document Services
Document Services will be closed for part of the summer period from Monday 17 August and will reopen on Thursday 3 September.
Please plan and submit any printing or document requests in advance or wait until services resume in September.
Study skills support
You can continue to access study skills support including online chat, 1-1 online appointments with a librarian and access to all our online study skills resources via Library SkillUP at go.herts.ac.uk/libraryskillup.
Please note that our library and digital skills on campus drop-ins in the LRC Study Success Hubs have finished for the Summer and will restart again in September.
LRC self-service vending area
The self-service vending area with drinks, snacks and hot and cold food will be available to use throughout the summer. Anytime, anywhere access to our services
Whether you are studying on campus or at home over the Summer don’t forget you can access our online services wherever you are:
- Extensive digital book and journal collection via the Online Library and module reading list/ resource list from Canvas
- Library SkillUp (Canvas module) specialist online study skills support with lots of useful help on topics such as searching, reading, referencing and evaluating
- Remote desktop service - access an LRC or Lab PC anytime, anywhere
- Additional online resources including subject specific resources; images, video and audio resources; and general reference materials.

Please note that the Welcome Desk on the ground floor of the LRCs will have reduced opening hours from May to September.

- LRC Information Points are available on all floors of the LRCs to look up books or find answers to common questions on Ask Herts.

Student support services
All services are open as normal apart from Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September 2026, when the office will be closed.
If you are living on campus and need to chat to anyone, just give +44 (0) 1707 281010 a call and ask to speak to a Resident Assistant (RA). Our out of hours RA team will be available 24/7 over during the holiday, so there is always someone you can call.

Herts SU
Welcome desks
Herts SU will remain open on College Lane.
Monday to Friday, 10:00 – 16:00 (College Lane) during the summer.

- Monday 25 May (Spring Bank Holiday)
- Monday 31 August (Summer Bank Holiday)
- Tuesday 1 September (University closure day)
Our office in de Havilland will remain closed throughout the summer period. It will re-open on Monday 28 September.
Advice & Support
Students can use our Advice & Support service, Monday to Friday (10:00 - 16:00) during the summer (same closure dates as above).
EleHouse
The EleHouse will remain open with the reduced hours of Monday to Friday (12:00 – 18:00) during the summer. We will be closed on Monday 31 August (Summer Bank Holiday) and Tuesday 1 September (University closure day ). We will return to our normal open hours on Monday 7 September.
The Forum Bar and Nightclub
The last student event in The Forum bar and nightclub will be Wednesday 20May. The Forum bar and nightclub will re-open to students on Saturday 26 September.
Chaplaincy
The Key and Multi Faith Space are open as normal, except on:
- Monday 31 August (Bank Holiday)
- Tuesday 1 September (University closure day)
Day Nursery
Open: 08:00–18:00 (Monday–Friday)
Closed on Bank Holidays and during University closure.
