How do I apply for accommodation?
Apply through the University's online accommodation portal.
What can I do in the accommodation portal?
The portal allows you to:
- View available accommodation options
- Submit an accommodation application
- Review and accept your room offer
- Pay your accommodation deposit and set up a payment plan
- Request to leave your accommodation early
What are the steps to apply?
- Create an account and sign in to the accommodation portal.
- Follow the steps to complete your application.
- Your application will be held until you have an unconditional offer to study at the University.
- Once eligible, you will receive an accommodation offer by email. You can view the offer in the portal.
- You have 10 calendar days to accept your offer. After this, the room may be offered to another applicant.
- To accept your offer, you must:
- Accept the accommodation terms and conditions
- Pay the accommodation deposit
- Set up a payment plan
- Digitally sign the acceptance
- Once you have accepted your offer, you will receive further information closer to the start of your accommodation booking.
How do returning students apply for accommodation?
Applications for University-managed accommodation for intermediate and final-year students for the 2026/27 academic year will open in December. The opening date will be published here nearer the time.
Accommodation for continuing students is allocated on a first come, first served basis. Once all rooms have been allocated, any further applications will be rejected.
How do research students apply for accommodation?
When can I apply?
You can apply once you have:
- Received your Student ID number
- A conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University
How do I apply?
Apply through the accommodation portal.
When creating your application, apply as a Postgraduate applicant so that accommodation staff can try to place you with other mature students.
When will I receive an accommodation offer?
You will not receive an accommodation offer until you hold an Unconditional Firm offer to study.
What do I need to do when I receive an offer?
You have 10 days to:
- Accept the accommodation terms and conditions
- Pay the accommodation deposit
- Set up a payment plan
- Digitally sign the acceptance
If you do not complete all steps within 10 days, your offer will expire.
Can all research students be housed on campus?
No. The University cannot offer accommodation if:
- You receive a salary from the University of Hertfordshire, or
- You do not have a Student ID number
If this applies to you, email accommodation services at accommodation@herts.ac.uk and they can provide information about short-term local accommodation while you arrange private housing.
Can I visit student accommodation before I apply?
Yes. You can book a room tour or request a callback to explore your accommodation options.
