The Key is a multi-faith and multicultural centre located above the Forum on the College Lane campus, on the route towards the Halls of Residence.
Opening times
Daily: 8am to 10pm
Facilities at The Key
Robert Runcie Rotunda
A large circular space for prayer, worship, reflection and meditation.
Living Room
A comfortable social space with seating and access to an outdoor deck where you can relax, study or meet others.
Olive Hall
A dedicated prayer and meditation space with:
- facilities suitable for Muslim prayer
- flexible space for Friday Jum'ah prayers
- areas for prayer, reflection and meditation
- a no-shoes area
- wudu facilities for men and women
Multi Faith Space (de Havilland)

The Multi-Faith Space is located opposite the Common Room Shop on the de Havilland campus.
It provides a shared space for:
- prayer
- worship
- reflection
- services
- faith-based and community activities

Activities and events
The Chaplaincy team runs regular spiritual, wellbeing and social activities throughout the week.
Silent Rotunda
Dedicated quiet periods for prayer and meditation in the Robert Runcie Rotunda.
Regular times:
- Monday: 12:00 to 14.30
- Tuesday: 12:00 to 14.30
- Wednesday: 13.30 to 14.30
- Thursday: 14:00 to 15:00
- Friday: 12:00 to 14.30
Please respect others using the space during these times.
Keep Calm and Craft
When: Tuesday, 12:00 to 14:00
Where: The Key, College Lane
Free craft materials are available, including:
- painting
- crochet
- knitting
- card making
Global Café
When: Wednesday, 11:00 to 12:00
Where: Multi-Faith Space, de Havilland
Meet other students and enjoy conversation in a welcoming environment.
Mindful Meditation
When: Thursday, 12.30 to 13.30
Where: The Key, College Lane
Led by Buddhist Chaplain Tom Short.
