Enrolling your biometrics for your Student visa application
As part of your Student visa application, you may need to provide biometric information to confirm your identity.
You will be told what you need to do when you apply. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to use the UK Immigration: ID Check app, or you may need to attend a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) appointment.
As part of your new or extended Student visa application, you must provide your fingerprints, photo, and digital signature. This is called enrolling your biometrics.
Using the UK Immigration ID Check App
If you are eligible to use the UK Immigration: ID Check app, you will be told when you reach the identity verification stage of your online application.
You will need a compatible phone. Current GOV.UK requirements include:
- iPhone 7 or newer, with iOS 15 or later
- Android 8.0 or later, with NFC
Your phone will also need internet access and access to its camera.

What if I cannot use the app?
You may need to attend a UKVCAS Service Point to provide your biometric information. You will be told if you need to use UKVCAS when you apply.
You must book an appointment before attending a UKVCAS Service Point.

What do I need to take to my biometric appointment?
If you need to attend a UKVCAS appointment, take:
- a printed copy of your appointment confirmation with the QR code
- your passport or travel document
- any supporting documents you have not already uploaded online.
You can upload supporting documents through the UKVCAS online service or have them scanned at your appointment.
Your visa application will not be processed until you have completed your biometric enrolment.
