Using Herts email to prove student eligibility
An email address can never be proof of identity. However, some retailers may ask you for a University email address as proof of your eligibility for student discounts on purchases such as clothes, computers, and software.
If you are asked to provide a university email address when purchasing a discounted product or for a specific service, please enter username@herts.ac.uk (where username is your normal Herts login name). For example, if your user name is bs02kjg then enter bs02kjg@herts.ac.uk.

Using your Outlook email address
You have a Microsoft 365 account which includes a personal Outlook email account with an individual University email address username@herts.ac.uk. You may use this as an additional email account for the duration of your studies. Your @herts.ac.uk email address may not be used in your student record details.
Most University updates go to your personal email, but some communications are sent through to your @herts.ac.uk inbox so you should check it regularly to make sure you don't miss anything imprtant. To make this easy download the Outlook app for instant access to your University inbox straight from your phone.
For students who joined the University before 2025, automatic forwarding from your University email to a personal email account has now been switched off. This helps keep your inbox more secure by allowing us to spot and remove harmful emails more quickly, reducing the risk of phishing and fraud.
Your University login account will be closed 6 months after the leaving date detailed in your student record, including your Microsoft 365 access and Herts email address. Once your account is closed, we are unable to recover your saved work and emails. Find out more.
