Emails FROM YOU to the University and to individual University staff
The University welcomes messages from you by email unless you have been specifically asked to respond or provide information in another way for a particular purpose. But we do always need to know who you are.
- Always use your chosen personal email address when sending emails to the University and to individual staff.
- In your email settings, set up an automatic signature to be included in every email that clearly states your name, course and University student member number.
- Do not send confidential information (eg credit card details) to the University by email
Requests for your email address as proof that you are a UH student.
An email address can never be proof of identity. However, some suppliers may ask you for a University email address as proof of your eligibility for certain services or for educational discount on purchases such as software.
If you are asked to provide a university email address when purchasing a discounted product or for a specific service, please enter username@herts.ac.uk [where username is your normal UH login name]. For example if your user name is bs11kjg then enter bs11kjg@herts.ac.uk.
Please note, any emails sent to your @herts.ac.uk email will be automatically forwarded to the personal email address you have entered on your Student Record. You can turn the email forward off or on at any time. Please see information below about your Office 365 Outlook email account.
Your Office 365 Outlook email account
All students have an Office 365 account which includes a personal Outlook email account with an individual University email address username@herts.ac.uk. This is an additional University email account for you to use for the duration of your studies. Your @herts.ac.uk email address may not be used in your Student Record details.
Please note, any emails sent to your Outlook email account will be automatically forwarded to the personal email address you have entered on your Student Record. You can turn off the email forward, change your forwarding email address or switch on an email forward at any time. For more information on using the email forward please see Microsoft’s instructions: Automatic forwarding in Microsoft Outlook.
