It is usually possible to submit your work up to five days beyond the submission deadline for an assignment, unless it is a referral assignment.
However, if you do submit your work for marking after the submission deadline (including an extended deadline following the granting of an extension), and with the exception of online time-limited assessments, the University's late submission policy will apply to your work. This will result in the application of a penalty to your grade causing a number of marks to be deducted, depending on how late your work was submitted.
The penalty that will be applied to your work is as follows:
- For modules at Levels 0, 4, 5, 6, assignments that are submitted late will have, for each day or part day (or for hard copy submission, working day or part day) up to five days after its published deadline, the numeric grade reduced by 10 grade points until or unless the numeric grade reaches or is 40. Where the numeric grade awarded for the assessment is less than 40, no lateness penalty will be applied.
- This also applies to deferred assignments, but not referred assignments.
- For modules at Level 7, assignments that are submitted late will have, for each day or part day (or for hard copy submission, working day or part day) up to five days after its published deadline, the numeric grade reduced by 10 grade points until or unless the numeric grade reaches or is 50. Where the numeric grade awarded for the assessment is less than 50, no lateness penalty will be applied.
- This also applies to deferred assignments, but not referred assignments.
- Referred assignments submitted after the published deadline will be awarded a grade of zero (0).
- Assignments (including deferred assignments) submitted later than five days (five working days in the case of hard copy submission) after the published deadline will be awarded a grade of zero (0).
Please note: For assessments requiring hard copy submission, working day refers to weekday when the University is open for business, including vacation times.
If you do submit your work late, it is advisable to speak to your Module Leader and/or your Personal Tutor so that they are aware of your circumstances and can advise and support you as necessary.
