Online distance learning students: Completing your registration

If you are studying an online distance learning course, find out what documents you need to send, how your registration is completed, and when you'll become a fully registered student.

What do I need to do?

Thank you for completing online registration.

Please email copies of your required documents to:
online-degrees@herts.ac.uk

Submit your documents as soon as possible to avoid delays to your registration.

Registration Checks

The UH Online Degrees team will complete your registration remotely using the documents you email to us.

You do not need to:

  • Attend an appointment
  • Complete any further registration steps
  • Log in to the Registration Portal

We will only contact you if:

  • Documents are missing
  • Documents cannot be read
  • Additional information is required

Once all registration requirements have been met, your student record will be marked ready for registration.

The earliest you can become fully registered is 14 days before your course start date.

Once you are fully registered:

  • Tuition fees will apply in line with the University's Fees and Finance Policy.
  • The University will notify Student Finance England or the relevant funding body of your registration.

Check your registration status

You can check your registration status in StudyNet.

Your status should change from Self-Registered to Registered.

If your status has not updated after a few days:

  • Check that you have emailed all required documents.
  • Check for emails requesting additional information.
  • Contact online-degrees@herts.ac.uk if you believe your registration should be complete.

What documents do I need?

To become fully registered, you must email all required documents to:

online-degrees@herts.ac.uk

Home students

Provide either:

  • A passport

or

  • A full birth certificate and driving licence

You must meet the criteria for British citizenship to register using a birth certificate.

EU/EEA students living in the UK

Provide:

  • Passport
  • EU Settlement Scheme decision
  • Right-to-study share code

EU/EEA students studying from their home country

Provide:

  • Passport

or

  • European Union identity card

Non-UK nationals living in the UK

If you have Settled Status, Pre-Settled Status or another visa, provide:

  • Passport
  • Right-to-study share code
  • Home Office decision letter

International students studying from their home country

Provide:

  • Passport

Important: Registration cannot be completed until all required documents have been received.
