Student visa application fees in the UK
The fee to extend or switch to a Student visa from inside the UK is £558 per applicant. You must also pay the visa application fee for each dependant applying with you.
You may be able to pay an additional fee for a faster decision. You will find out if a faster service is available when you apply.
You will also need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) as part of your application. The amount depends on how long your visa lasts.
How much does a Standard Student visa application cost?
- £558 per applicant
- You will usually receive a decision within 8 weeks.
How much does the Priority service cost?
- If available, the Priority service costs an additional £500 per applicant, on top of the Student visa application fee.
- £1,028 per applicant
- You will usually receive a decision within 5 working days.
How much does the Super Priority service cost?
- If available, the Super Priority service costs an additional £1,000 per applicant, on top of the Student visa application fee.
- £1,528 per applicant
You will usually receive a decision:
- by the end of the next working day if you attend an appointment or finish uploading your documents on a weekday
- 2 working days later if your appointment or document upload is at the weekend or on a bank holiday.
What fees do my dependants need to pay?
Each dependant applying with you must pay their own Student visa application fee of £558.
If a faster service is available to them, they must also pay the relevant faster-decision fee:
- Priority: an additional £500
- Super Priority: an additional £1,000
The faster services available to a Student visa dependant can depend on how they prove their identity.
For Student visa dependants:
- if they attend a UKVCAS appointment, they may be eligible for Priority or Super Priority
- if they use the UK Immigration: ID Check app, they may be eligible for Priority but not Super Priority
They will find out which faster services are available when they apply.
When do I need to apply?
You must submit your Student visa application before your current visa expires. Your new course must also begin within 28 days of your current visa expiring.
You will be told how you need to prove your identity. This will be either by attending a UKVCAS appointment or using the UK Immigration: ID Check app.
