What is a Hertfordshire Internship?
- Online, voluntary internship with a real-world role within a global organisation.
- 15 hours per week for 8 weeks.
Eligibility criteria
These voluntary internships are for postgraduate students who are studying at the UK Hatfield campus, and offered on a first come, first served basis. Please speak to your local representative for more information. You must also meet the following criteria;
Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students for Semester B, January 2026:
- you need to be a fully registered, new student for January 2026.
- you will need to be registered and in the UK studying, by 19 January 2026.

Hertfordshire Internships are offered in partnership with Virtual Internships. The application link below will take you to their website and the University of Hertfordshire account. Please apply directly through this link to avoid any requests for payment.
Application timeline
- Stage 1 - Application window open
- Stage 2 - Review period. We will confirm if you have met the criteria
- Stage 3 - Confirm your enrolment
- Stage 4 - Internship matching begins
- Stage 5 - Start your internship
You will be supported through all the steps above and kept informed of what you need to do next to progress with your internship. The above process will take around two months from start of application to start of internship, depending on when you submit your application.
Working restrictions
ℹ️If you undertake a Hertfordshire Internship it will count towards your 20 hours per week student visa working restrictions.
If you do the internship during term time, you need to abide by the 15 hour a week work limit that all Hertfordshire students are required to adhere to when working in roles associated with the University. This is to ensure you maintain a good work, study, life balance.
