Canvas help for students

Canvas is the University's learning management system where you can access module materials, submit assignments, participate in discussions and view your grades. It’s designed to help you stay on track and connected to tutors and fellow students.

Canvas Community Guides

The Canvas Community is a great starting point for any Canvas query. Here, you'll find  step-by-step guides on everything from customising your dashboard to participating in online discussions.  While some of the terminology may differ from what we use at Herts, these official guides provide excellent, up-to-date information.  We’ve complied a selection of those  we think are likely to be the most useful with a  help from our Student Technology Mentors.

Library SkillUP

Library SkillUP provides online support materials to help students develop their information literacy skills. This includes guidance on key aspects of our online learning environment as follows:

  • Canvas quizzes and submitting assignments
Here you will find more information about the assessment related features of Canvas including quizzes, submitting assignments, checking your work using Turnitin (text matching software) and viewing marks and feedback.

To get started, go to go.herts.ac.uk/libraryskillup.  Click ‘+Join this module’ and navigate to the relevant section.

Need some in-person support?

If you can't find the exact help you're looking for, why not pop along to the Learning Resouces Centre and meet with one of our  Student Technology Mentors at one of our Digital SkillUP drop-ins.  Alternatively, you can book an Online 1:1 appointment through the Library SkillUP Canvas calendar.

Experiencing access probems?

If you are experiencing  access probems such as missing/incorrect modules,  or perhaps you're not recieving notifications,  please visit the Ask Herts page called  'StudyNet and Canvas modules' for further guidance.
