Identification requirements

In order to register at the University of Hertfordshire you need to provide identification. The documentation we require depends on your immigration status and is broken down below:

Top of page

Home students (UK/Irish Nationals)

  • Preferred: Passport photo page - A passport is our preferred form of identification for all students
  • Alternative: Full birth certificate and UK photo Driving Licence (both required). You must meet the criteria for a British citizen to register using your birth certificate. We are unable to accept a driving licence on its own as a form of ID

⚠️Note: If you do not have any of the above identity documents, please apply for a provisional driving licence here, which can be used to process your registration. Failure to provide recognised identity documents may result in a delay in your registration until these documents can be confirmed.
