Documents for face-to-face registration
If you hold a time-limited visa to be in the UK, you must attend a face-to-face registration appointment.
You must bring your passport and right-to-study share code. Depending on your visa, you may also need additional documents.
Documents all students must bring
If you have been asked to attend face-to-face registration, you must bring:
- your physical passport. Digital copies are not accepted
- your right-to-study share code so we can access your eVisa.
When creating your share code, select ‘to prove my status for anything else’ when asked why you need a share code.

Additional documents for your visa type
If you are on a Student visa, you must also provide evidence that you entered the UK on your Student visa.
You can provide:
- a stamp in your passport, if you received one
- a physical or digital airline boarding pass
- a flight itinerary.
The evidence must show your full name and date of travel.
Although not required, we recommend bringing your UKVI decision letter or email and CAS letter.
If you are on a Dependant visa, bring physical or digital copies of the passport and eVisa of the person you are dependent on.
If you are on a Refugee visa, bring your UKVI decision letter or email confirming the outcome of your visa application.
Visitor visa for study under six months
If you are studying for less than six months on a visitor visa, you must provide evidence of when you entered the UK.
You can provide:
- a passport entry stamp, if you received one
- a physical or digital airline boarding pass
- a flight itinerary
- a port entry stamp
- a Eurostar ticket or booking itinerary.
Your evidence must show your name and date of arrival in the UK.
Students on visitor visas may be able to generate an eVisa. If you can, bring your eVisa share code to your appointment. If you cannot generate an eVisa, the evidence of entry listed above is sufficient.

If your visa has not been granted yet
If you have applied for a visa and are still waiting for a decision, bring evidence of your full visa application, either physical or digital.
At your appointment, you will also be asked to complete a UKVI consent form. This allows the Student Immigration Team to contact the Home Office to verify your current right to study while you wait for a decision.
If you are allowed to register while awaiting a decision but your visa is later refused and you no longer have the right to study in the UK, you may be withdrawn.
Graduate visa holders awaiting a Student visa
If you currently hold a Graduate visa and have applied for a Student visa, you cannot register until your new Student visa has been granted. A Graduate visa does not give you the right to study.
If you applied for your Student visa from within the UK
If you applied for your current Student visa from within the UK, bring evidence of your full visa application, either physical or digital.
This allows us to confirm that you applied from within the UK, so you will not need to provide proof of entry to the UK.
If you currently have a Graduate Route visa
Students usually cannot register for a new University of Hertfordshire course while holding a Graduate visa.
You may need to apply for another type of visa before you can study. Contact the Student Immigration Team for guidance.
Before your face-to-face registration appointment
You must complete online registration before attending your face-to-face appointment.
Where to attend
Face-to-face registration for Semester A takes place in the Learning Resources Centre (LRC), College Lane Campus.
Check your tuition fee payments
If you are joining the University from abroad and are self-funding your studies, including where family or friends are paying your tuition fees, you must meet the relevant fee liability deadlines before you can complete registration.
If you have already made the required payment, consider bringing proof of payment to your appointment.
