How can I check access before I visit?
Before you visit:
- Check how busy the LRCs are before you visit using the Herts Mobile app. In the app, select Plan Your Visit and then view live data and daily trends.
- Disabled parking is available directly outside College Lane LRC and near DeHavilland LRC.
- For accessible journey planning, including venue access and LRC space information, visit the University of Hertfordshire Accessibility Guide on the AccessAble website and app.
What accessible facilities are available in the LRCs?
Building access:
- Wide entrance gates
- Lifts to all floors. Any service issues will be noted on https://status.herts.ac.uk/
- Keyless accessible toilets on every floor
- Communal seating areas being situated on the ground floor and café spaces.
Study spaces:
- Adjustable height desks
- Low-level information points can be found throughout the LRCs.
- Study areas with spaces for wheelchair users and other mobility aids.
- PCs available on all floors, with locations and availability shown in the Herts Mobile app’s wayfinding feature.
- Chromebook lockers include devices to be collected and stored at accessible heights.
How can I access resources available in the LRCs and off campus?
- Book reservations: Reserve a book via the Online Library and pick it up from the reservation shelves on the ground floor.
- Book retrieval service: If reaching shelves is difficult, you can use the book retrieval service to help you access library materials.
- Access the Online Library, Libby and Lean Library for remote resources; if an ebook is not available you may be able to request a scan from a physical book in the library collection.
- The Library Catalogue point is located on the ground floor for easy access.
- Postal Service is available for book deliveries and returns.
- Remote desktop access allows you to use University software from your own device without visiting campus
What support is available to me while I’m visiting the LRCs?
- Library staff are available at the welcome desk and can help you use library services and facilities.
- Accessible information points are available on every floor. These points include phones and PCs directly connected to the Helpdesk.
- In person IT appointments are available to book in advance – please contact the Helpdesk.
- Study support: The Study Success Hub provides in-person academic support and guidance.
What happens in an emergency?
LRC security staff are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Emergency refuge points are available on every floor.
If you need assistance during an emergency, follow staff instructions and emergency procedures.
