The Medical Centre provides general medical and nursing services for students

Our trained staff provide advice and support for:

  • Feeling unwell
  • Health advice: diet, smoking, alcohol
  • Contraception
  • Chlamydia screening
  • Travel advice & vaccinations

How to register

We recommend students living away from home in Hatfield register with the UH Medical Centre in the Hutton Hub, College Lane.

Choose your registration form:

We can register all UH students living in Hatfield.

 Students living elsewhere may face restrictions:

  • No home visits
  • Limited urgent/out-of-hours care
  • Some community services unavailable (e.g., midwife, physiotherapy, mental health support)

We recommend registering locally if you are:

  • Pregnant
  • Have significant mental illness
  • Have children under 16
  • Need community services

Opening hours

  • Surgery: 09:00–17:00, Monday–Friday
  • Appointments: 08:30–18:30
  • Out-of-hours care at Potterells Medical Centre if needed.

Tests, results and sick notes/certificates

Blood Tests:

  • Performed at QE2 Hospital, Howlands, Welwyn Garden City AL7 4HQ
  • Book online: Blood Test Booking 
  • Bus: Uno 653 from de Havilland Campus. Check the Uno website.

Sick Notes /certificates:

  • Employees need a fit note after 7 days off
  • University students can self-certify for ≤7 days
  • Download UH self-certification form

Test Results:

  • Collected via reception or online form

If registered with the NHS, you may be eligible for support via the NHS low income scheme.
