Consortium college students: University registration

If you study at a consortium college, you must register with both your college and the University of Hertfordshire. Find out how to complete your University registration, collect your student ID card and access University services.

As a consortium college student, you must register:

  • With your college
  • With the University of Hertfordshire

Your college will provide information about its own registration process.

You will have both:

  • A college student ID card
  • A University of Hertfordshire student ID card

As a University student, you can access University facilities, services and resources.

How do I register with the University

  1. Set up your University account

You will receive an email containing:

  • Your University username
  • Instructions for setting up your account

You must complete this step before continuing with registration.

  1. Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

After setting up your account, follow the instructions to set up MFA to help keep your account secure.

  1. Complete online registration

You will receive a second email inviting you to register.

Sign in to the Joining Portal using your University username and password and complete all registration tasks.

  1. Upload your identity documents

Upload your identity documents through the Joining Portal.

You will need either:

  • A passport or
  • A birth certificate and a driving licence (full or provisional)

You cannot complete registration without proof of identity.

If you have concerns about providing these documents, contact registration@herts.ac.uk.

  1. Upload your ID card photo

Upload a passport-style photo for your University ID card.

Your photo must:

  • Have a plain background
  • Clearly show your face
  • Not include filters or effects

  1. Wait for your registration to be checked

Once all tasks have been completed:

  • Your registration and documents will be reviewed
  • You will receive an email confirming when you are fully registered
  • We will contact you if any information is missing
  1. Access University systems

When you're registered:

  • Connect to University Wi-Fi
  • Download the Herts Mobile app
  • Sign in using your University account
  1. Wait for your registration to be checked

    After you have compelted your registration tasks, our team will check your registration and identity documents.

    You will receive an email confirming when you are fully registered.

    If anything is missing, we will contact you directly. 
  1. Access University systems

When you're registered:

  • Connect to University Wi-Fi
  • Download the Herts Mobile app
  • Sign in using your University account

Consortium students' induction day

Date: Friday 11 September 2026
Time: 9:15am
Location: Lindop Building, College Lane Campus

On the day you can:

  • Collect your University ID card
  • Meet University staff and other students
  • Learn about campus services and opportunities
  • Find out more about Herts SU
  • Purchase official University merchandise, including hoodies, bags and other items, please visit the  University of Hertfordshire online store to browse

Important

Graduation ceremonies will also be taking place on campus, so it is expected to be very busy.

Travel information

Bus travel

  • Students can get discounted travel on Uno buses.
  • Download the Uno app and buy tickets before boarding.

Rail travel

  • Students may be eligible for a 16-25 Railcard, including mature students.
  • Apply online or collect an application form from your local railway station.

London travel

What your college provides

The University cannot provide the following documents or services. Please contact your college if you need:

  • Timetables
  • College ID card
  • Council Tax exemption certificates if you are a full-time student
  • Student status letters
  • College login details
  • Access to Canvas or course information
