Neurodiversity/Neurodivergence refers to the different ways the brain can work and interpret information. It’s an umbrella term that includes Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Condition & Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs) such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia - to name a few.
It is estimated that across the UK, around 1 in 7 people are neurodivergent.
People with neurodivergent conditions have many strengths. The most common can be seen in the below graphic:

Supporting your studies:
If you have a neurodivergent condition, we can help support you with your studies. You may also wish to have a Study Needs Agreement (SNA) implemented. You can discuss an SNA with a Disability or Mental Health Adviser.
We also offer support to students who have not yet received a formal diagnosis or would like more information on diagnostic pathways.
- We offer a diagnostic service for certain SpLDs.
- We can also discuss and support you with you how to seek a diagnosis through your GP for ADHD, autism, and mental health conditions.
The Disabled Students Allowance (DSA):
If you have a diagnosis, you may be eligible for the Disabled Students Allowance (DSA). To read more about DSA and how to apply please see here. Students who are not eligible for DSA will be able to access support through the university – please talk this through with an advisor.
