Returning student registration

Information about registration for returning students (returning to the same programme of study only)

Online registration

If you are returning to a subsequent year of study, including continuing your course, on a study abroad year, or on a placement year, you will need to:

Log in to your student record here and complete Stage 1 online registration to confirm you are continuing with your course.

A list of all University policies and regulations can be found here.

Once you have completed online registration, please identify from the options below which type of returning student you are and follow the relevant steps:

Returning Home/EU/International students

Note: This information does not apply to work placement or Study Abroad students. Please see Work Placement and Study Abroad students.

  1. Completing registration: After you finish online registration, it may take up to 24 hours for your status to update to 'Registered' across the University systems. Make sure you complete all sections in the registration portal.

  2. Registration issues: If your status does not change to ‘Registered’ within five days of completing online registration, there may be an issue. Please contact the Ask Herts Team for help.

  3. Student loans: If you have a student loan, remember that you’ll need to re-apply for funding each year. We will confirm your attendance to the Student Loans Company (SLC) once you have registered. The SLC will then release your loan.
IMPORTANT: The earliest date that loans can be released from the Student Loans Company is start of term (Monday 22nd September). After you are registered, it can take up to seven working days for the money to reach your account.

  4. Visa holders: If you are on any type of visa and your status hasn't changed to 'Registered' after completing online registration, contact the Student Immigration Team (Compliance). They may need updated immigration documents from you. To view the full list of visa requirements for all Student Route Applicants and Students please click here.

  5. Attendance: When you return to campus, remember to swipe your student ID card at every teaching session to record your attendance. ID card readers are located inside all teaching rooms.

Work Placement and Study Abroad students

Your registration will be completed by us if you have followed the correct University approval processes allowing you to take a work placement or study abroad year.

Important: if you are on a Student Route visa you must inform sitcompliance@herts.ac.uk that you are going on placement or study abroad before you go.

Returning distance learning students

Your registration will be completed by your School.

Returning Associate College students

Your College will inform the University once you have returned to study.

If you are in receipt of a student loan, we will confirm your attendance to the Student Loans Company (SLC) once we have been notified to do so by your College.

IMPORTANT: The earliest date that loans can be released from the Student Loans Company is start of term (Monday 22nd September). Once your attendance has been confirmed to SLC, it can take up to seven working days for the money to reach your account.

If you are progressing from a course at an Associate College to a course at the University of Hertfordshire, you are considered a new student and will need to follow the procedure for ‘New Students’.
