How do I register as a returning student?

If you're continuing on the same course, you must complete online registration before the start of your next year or semester. Find out who needs to register, what to do, and what happens next.

Registration opening dates

  • Returning student registration opens on 13 August 2026. You will not be able to complete registration before this date.
  • Research students can register from 21 July 2026 and should complete registration as soon as possible.

Who needs to register?

You must complete online registration if you are:

How do I register?

  1. Log in to your student record and complete stage 1 online registration.
  2. Confirm that you are continuing your course.
  3. Complete registration by Monday 12 October 2026.
  4. Read and comply with all University policies and regulations.

What happens next?

After completing online registration, choose the section below that applies to you:

Returning home, EU and international students

Completing your registration

After completing online registration, it can take up to 24 hours for your status to update to Registered across University systems.

If your registration has not updated

If your status has not changed to Registered within five days, contact Ask Herts.

Student loans

If you receive a student loan, you must reapply for funding each academic year.

Once you have registered, the University will confirm your attendance to the Student Loans Company (SLC) so your funding can be released.

Student visa holders

If your status has not updated after completing registration, contact the Student Immigration Team at sitcompliance@herts.ac.uk. You may be asked to provide updated immigration documents.

Attendance

Remember to swipe your student ID card at every teaching session to record your attendance.

This section does not apply to placement year or study abroad students. Please see work placement and study abroad students.

Placement year and study abroad students

If you are starting a placement year or study abroad year, you must complete online registration through Student Record to confirm that you are continuing your course.

The University will complete your registration after the required approval processes have been completed.

Student visa holders

Before starting your placement or study abroad year, contact the Student Immigration Team at:

Distance learning students

Your School will complete registration on your behalf.

If you have questions about your registration, contact your School directly.

Associate college students 

Your college will notify the University when you return to study.

If you receive a student loan, the University will confirm your attendance to the Student Loans Company once notification has been received from your college.

Moving from an associate college to a UH course

If you are progressing from an associate college course to a University of Hertfordshire course, you will be treated as a new student and must follow the registration process for new students
